The Unsung Hero award went to Tonbridge
Judo's legendary coach Dick Marcroft, who has been working with the area's
talent for over 40 years and works as hard today as he did in the 1960s.
This gives the club its second consecutive award in this category following
Chris Bowles' win last year.
Dick's unswerving enthusiasm and dedication over the decades have seen
generations of young judo champions excel at the sport he loves (producing an
Olympian and three internationals) and he remains the inspiration behind
training the current crop of youngsters.
He told the Kent and Sussex Courier he was over the moon to win the award.
"I am really really pleased to win the award and I want to say thank you to
everyone who voted for me," he said. "I didn't know I had won until a week ago
and I would like to say that it doesn't revolve around just one person at the
club but it revolves around all the people to make it a success."
