On a rainy day in November a small party from Tonbridge Judo Club set off for Marbella for a Senior European Cup. The fact that it was 26 degrees and the sky was clear blue was quite an attraction!

This was the first senior European competition for all three players, but all
acquitted themselves well. Aaron Turner, the first up, set the tone by winning
his opening fight convincingly he then narrowly lost to a very experienced
player 10 years older eventually coming 9th overall he was by far the youngest
male competing and this was a great performance. The two girls taking part Mia
Cook and Jemima Yeats-Brown finished second and 5th respectively. Mia put in a
superb performance to take the silver medal stopping a Spanish clean sweep and
proving herself a force to be reckoned with at International senior level.
Jemima, at only 15, was the youngest competitor in the competition and she beat
the number one seed to reach the semi-final losing on flags after golden score
and eventually finishing fifth. Chris Bowles, head coach at Tonbridge, was very
pleased with the performances of all the players who then all remained in Spain
for a training camp.
