Serbia for the Senior European Cup
6 players travelled to Serbia for the Senior European Cup. 39 countries and well
over 200 competitors it was always going to be hard. We got off to a great start
with James Martin and Andrew both strangling their opponents well within time.
Kerry was then unlucky to lose on a technicality having been well ahead on
attacks and Aaron had a really tough match against a very strong experienced
player. He too was unlucky in his draw and unlucky to lose. Andrew and James
both had tough second fights - James with a World Cup silver medallist. Both
lost after good battles and James got pulled back to the repercharge, again he
fought well despite having a tooth knocked out and was unlucky to be knocked out
in 7th position. Jemima also finished 7th having beaten a Croatian and taking
the Russian bronze medallist to time only losing by a Yuko - in fact the Russian
was unlucky not to be disqualified for running off the mat to avoid fighting at
the end. Jemima then lost in the repercharge to a huge Slovakian who had dropped
a weight group for the day. Our final player, Mia, had a very unfortunate draw
meeting a very experienced Russian in the first round. She was unlucky not to be
pulled back as her potential opponent withdrew.
Next stop for the elite players is Malaga where we are taking a team of 6-8
players to another Senior European Cup.
