These are golden times for judo club

TOP TEAM: Jemima Yeats-Brown, Amelia Cook and Enrico Atkinson show off their medals with coach Chris Bowles

TONBRIDGE Judo Club is celebrating its best ever Great Britain Championships after picking up three Golds and a silver in Sheffield.

In total, the club had 19 players representing the South East and they didn't disappoint.

Enrico Atkinson, of Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys, was the first to strike gold. After sailing through the rounds of the under 66kg cadet under 15 category, in impressive style, Atkinson won a tight final by five points.

Jemima Yeats-Brown continued her fine season with a stunning display to win the cadet under 17 title. The under 57kg Benenden schoolgirl was at her emphatic best, beating an old adversary from Wales in the final.

The final gold medallist for Tonbridge was Ben Urban. The under 17 cadet boy has recently joined the Chris Bowles stable from Hastings and he showed his class. It wasn't the easiest of victories for Urban, being taken all the way in three of his fights, but he clung on in there to take the top prize.

Amelia Cook picked up the solitary silver for Tonbridge in the under 20 age group. She was seemingly in charge of her under 48kg final, but got caught out late on.

"It's the best ever achievement for our club," secretary Jason Atkinson said. "It enhances our reputation as one of the leading development clubs in the south east."

Things don't quieten down for the club in the immediate future. Fourteen players are off to France in early December, before the International Judo Camp hits Tonbridge School just before Christmas.
